About the book ......

And So It Is has 100 Spiritual Essays that were published in the Madera Tribune Newpaper.  In these 100 writings, Rev. Jim shows us how, by living in harmony with ourselves, one another and nature, we too can learn to follow our spirit within, our intuition, that can lead us to a life filled with abundant peace, harmony, laughter and love.

One of Reverend Jim's Articles

 Move Forward With Caution

There is a place in us which lies open to the Infinite: but when the Spirit brings its gift, by pouring Itself through us, It can give us only what we take.

Ernest Holmes, Science of Mind, page 151.

There are times when opportunity raises its head and we see the potential in it, but then move too fast and find ourselves in a position of not knowing in which direction to turn. Everyone wants to move forward to better themselves to a life of joy and peace without a lot of hard work. To provide for our families, one has to work at something in order to receive the items needed that can create a happy life for everyone in the experience. I know in some families it requires the income of two people to support the life style the family wants. That is fine in most cases because the family spends time together and is happy. There are those looking for something bigger and better without doing the hard work involved. They act so fast that they don’t think of what it takes to reach the goal they set for themselves. Moving too fast on a project can get one in trouble because they do not take time to check things out.

I learned a good lesson a few years back that opened my eyes to the fact that the time spent checking things out can steer one out of trouble ahead. My brother and I were invited by my sister’s children in Gadsden, Alabama to a surprise birthday party for my sister, who was turning eighty years young. We landed in Birmingham in a down pour of rain and picked up our luggage and then rented a car for the trip from Birmingham to Gadsden. The car we rented was in a parking garage joined to the air terminal with a sheltered walkway. The rain was coming down very hard all the time we were renting the car and walking to the parking garage. After putting our luggage in the trunk of the rental car, we were ready to make the trip. Pulling out of the parking garage onto a street with six lanes of traffic moving very fast and in a down pour of rain was not a good experience. After getting in the traffic I looked for the windshield wipers and couldn’t find the switch. It was a compact foreign car that I was not familiar with and in fast moving traffic with no wipers is a pretty scary experience. I finally found a place to pull out of the traffic and stop only to get frustrated more looking for the wiper switch. That taught me a lesson that I use to this day when attempting something new.

When there is something unfamiliar that I need directions on is when I rely on the Creative Intelligence of the Universe (God) to give me the wisdom needed to overcome the fear of not knowing what to do. It only takes a few minutes to figure it out, once I release the fear and ask God to show me the way. As Ernest Holmes says, “there is a place in us which lies open to the Infinite” (God), which we should use when asking for help with anything we wish to achieve. Had I have taken a couple of minutes looking for the wiper switch I would not have experienced the fear I had when I was in the down pour of rain and in heavy traffic. Everyone should take those few minutes to gain the wisdom to overcome any fear by letting go and letting God help.
